Jadeite is a member of the Pyroxene group and is very tough and resistant to weathering due to the solid intergrowth of small grains and felt-like fibers.

Rarely found as euhedral crystals, usually as the monomineral metamorphic rock jadeite. It is often used as an ornamental jewel and as a carving.

Fracture areas have a matt, polished, greasy shine
