Spodumene is processed as an ore of lithium, but it is most valued as a gemstone material - the Kunzite (pink) and Hiddenite (green) varieties are particularly sought after. It is usually found as a constituent of lithium-rich pegmatites. It forms crystals up to 12 meters long.

The Spodumene group is a subgroup of the Pyroxenes and consists, among others, of White Spodumene, Hiddenite, Kunzite.
