Topaz
Topaz
Topaz is named after the island of Topasos in the Red Sea. In ancient times, the name was probably used for the gemstone now known as Peridot.

Topaz is found in pegmatites, high temperature quartz veins and also in cavities in granite and rhyolite.
The coloring substances are iron and chrome. Some yellow-brown varieties of certain deposits bleached out in sunlight. Topaz is sensitive to sulfuric acid.
There is an interchangeability with Apatite, Aquamarine, Brazilianite, Chrysoberyl, Citrine, Danburite, Diamond, Edelberyl, Fluorite, Kunzite, Orthoclase, Phenakite, Ruby, Sapphire, Spinel, Tourmaline and Zircon.
